A uniform approach to modelling data, information and knowledge is given. One feature of this approach is that items of data, information and knowledge can be combined with one another in a natural way. Another feature is that a single principle of normalisation is introduced which may be applied to data, information and to knowledge. It is proposed that this unified approach to modelling provides the foundation for the development of powerful modelling tools for knowledge systems.
