In der Bundesrepublik liegt der Schwerpunkt der EMV-Normung für zivile Anwendung im K 767 (K 760 alt) der Deutschen Elektrotechnischen Kommission im DIN und VDE (DKE). EMV-Normen für militärische Anwendung entstehen in Form der Verteidigungsgerätenormen (VG) in der Verantwortung der Normenstelle Elektrotechnik (NE), der Normenstelle Marine (NM) und der Normenstelle Luftfahrt (NL) im DIN. Aber auch Interessenverbände wie z. B. NAMUR, VDMA usw. arbeiten entsprechende Papiere aus. In der nationalen Normung anderer Staaten ist vor allem die MIL-STD 461 als die klassische EMV-Norm zu nennen.
