Abstract

To ascertain opportunities for the optimization of magnetic properties of a cobalt-based soft magnetic amorphous alloy AMAG-172 (Co–Ni–Fe–Cr–Mn–Si–B) results of systematic studies of their nonuniformity in the as-quenched state are reported. The studies showed the existence of the substantial nonuniformity of magnetic characteristics both across the ribbon width and along the ribbon length. The nonuniformity of magnetic characteristics along the ribbon length is periodical in character and sinusoidal; this can be related to the manufacturing conditions of the ribbon. Variations of the maximum magnetic permeability and volume of domains with an orthogonal magnetization component are in antiphase. A bimodal field dependence of the magnetic permeability is found, which can result from the nonuniformity of the characteristics across the ribbon thickness.
