The ironstones of minette type cropping out at the Paleozoic sedimentary basin of northwestern Argentina (Salta and Jujuy provinces) and their continuation in Bolivian territory are hosted in Silurian rocks assigned to the Lipeón Formation (Argentina) and to the Kirusillas Formation (Bolivia).
