Abstract

Hubert Heinelt and I first met at a research symposium in Hanover in May 1991. It marked the occasion of the 750th anniversary of the City of Hanover, to which the City of Bristol is twinned. The theme of the seminar was The Future of the City and participants included both Bristol and Hanover university staff and leading public figures from the two cities.
