Occupant protection in rearward shifted seating positions in highly automated vehicles is difficult with today's restraint systems. Within the EU project SAFE-UP, the Institute for Automotive Engineering (ika) of RWTH Aachen University investigated an approach to protect occupants in rearward shifted seats. Actuators move the seat to a standard position pre-crash, to ensure the functionality of conventional restraint systems. …
