Preparation and characterization of calcium titanate nanoparticles with the aid of different acids and study of their photocatalytic properties

Abstract

Pure calcium titanate (CaTiO3) nanoparticles were prepared via a facile route with the aid of calcium nitrate and tetra-n-butyl titanate. Besides, capping agents such as oxalic acid, salicylic acid, and cinnamic acid were used to investigate their effects on the morphology and particle size of CaTiO3 nanoparticles. Various techniques including EDS, XRD, UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and SEM were applied to characterize the structural and optical properties of the as-obtained CaTiO3 nanoparticles.
According to the vibrating sample magnetometer result, CaTiO3 nanoparticles indicated a ferromagnetic behavior at room temperature. Furthermore, the photocatalytic properties of assynthesized CaTiO3 were evaluated by degradation of methyl orange (MO) as water contaminant.
