Abstract

The article delves into the development of hydrogels derived from okra pods and chia seeds mucilage for drug delivery applications. It emphasizes the advantages of using natural polysaccharides over synthetic polymers, such as lower cost, higher biocompatibility, and biodegradability. The study incorporates zinc oxide nanoparticles to improve the mechanical and chemical properties of the hydrogels, resulting in enhanced water retention and biocompatibility. The use of nettle extract as a herbal drug within these hydrogels demonstrates effective slow drug release and antibacterial properties. The research also includes detailed characterization methods, such as SEM, FTIR, and TGA, to analyze the morphology and interactions within the hydrogels. The article concludes by highlighting the potential of these nanocomposite hydrogels for advanced drug delivery systems.
