Abstract

Burned dolomite powder of particle size less than 5 mm is a significant MgO and CaO resource and is obtained directly as a solid waste in the steel industry. The recycling and use of this waste material is the only option to save non-renewable resources and to conserve scarce landfill space. This paper discusses the potential for recycling burned dolomite powder through pelletizing with syrup and lime binders. Pellets of particle size 15 to 20 mm could be used as a raw material in the steelmaking process. Properties such as granulation rate, compressive properties, falling strength, and chemical constituents were determined. The ideal pellet composition (mass percent) was found to be 15% syrup, 5% lime, and 25% water. This study provides an easy way to reuse the burned dolomite powder resource and support sustainable development in the steel industry.
