Mercedes-AMG aims to combine performance with efficiency in the new E 53 Hybrid 4Matic+. The plug-in hybrid model will be launched as a saloon and estate.

The design of the Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid models has been sharpened up. The radiator grille with vertical slats is illuminated as standard. The wider track at the front requires wider fenders, while the front apron has air intakes with two vertical fins on the outside and a central A-wing. There are also new side skirts, a spoiler lip on the trunk lid of the saloon and a rear apron with diffuser and two round twin tailpipe trims on the left and right. The E 53 Hybrid 4Matic+ rolls on 19" light-alloy wheels as standard, with up to 21" wheels available.

In addition to a translucent, open-pore wood trim with AMG logo, the interior features electrically adjustable sports seats in imitation leather with red topstitching and the AMG leather steering wheel. The electric performance seats are optional. The MBUX Superscreen with passenger monitor is also available for an extra charge. AMG and hybrid-specific displays and features are shown in the cockpit.

Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid with up to 450 kW Output

The 3.0 l R6 gasoline engine with 330 kW (449 hp) and the permanently excited electric synchronous machine with 120 kW generate a maximum system output of 430 kW (585 hp). With the optional Launch Control, it is even 450 kW (612 hp) and a maximum system torque of 750 Nm. The power is variably distributed to the front and rear axles via the Speedshift-TCT 9G automatic transmission and an electromechanically controlled clutch. With Launch Control "Race Start", acceleration from 0-100 km/h is achieved in 3.8 s. With the optional AMG Driver's Package, the saloon is only electronically limited at 280 km/h (250 km/h as standard). Purely electrically, up to 140 km/h is possible.

The 400 V traction battery installed under the trunk floor has a gross capacity of 28.6 kWh with a usable energy content of 21.2 kWh. This means that the electric range can be over 100 km. An 11 kW charger is on board as standard, with a 60 kW DC fast charger for direct current available as an option. Charging from 10 to 80 % SoC then takes around 20 minutes. In addition to the familiar driving modes, the hybrid models also have "Electric" and "Battery Hold".

The Ride Control suspension with steel springs, adaptive adjustable damping and the three levels "Comfort", "Sport" and "Sport+" is standard. The sports brake system offers 370x36 mm brake discs on the front axle and four-piston fixed callipers. At the rear axle, the discs are 360x26 mm with single-piston floating callipers. Active rear axle steering is also standard. The optional Dynamic Plus package adds larger brakes, an electronic rear axle locking differential and the "Race Start" function. From its market launch, the new E 53 Hybrid 4Matic+ will also be available for one year as a special "Edition 1" model.
