Using hydrogen as a fuel for combustion engines provides an alternative to the emissions caused by vehicles powered by conventional combustion engines. With H2 combustion there are virtually no carbonaceous exhaust gas emissions such as CO, CH or the climate-damaging greenhouse gas CO2. In this paper Keyou presents its hydrogen engine concept and explains the adaptation of a diesel engine for operation with hydrogen. To do so, the original diesel process is modified to an Otto-cycle process with an external ignition source and alongside the additional ignition system, a fuel system for injecting H2 is also integrated. …
