This special issue contains a selection of papers from the 8th ERCIM Workshop “User Interfaces for All”. Building upon the cross- and multi-disciplinary traditions of the ERCIM Workshop series “User Interfaces for All”, the 8th Workshop, held in Vienna, Austria, in June 2004, emphasized the proactive realization of the Design for All principle in terms of user-oriented interaction techniques and styles.
