Zusammenfassung

Persönlichkeitseigenschaften lassen sich nicht nur aus Beobachtungen des Verhaltens erschließen, sondern – wie schon Sherlock Holmes wusste – auch aus den Spuren, die Menschen in ihrer Umwelt hinterlassen. Diese Spuren finden sich in großer Zahl auch im Internet als Big Data. Sie lassen sich inzwischen so gut auswerten, dass die Persönlichkeitserfassung mindestens so gut ist wie die Beurteilung durch gute Bekannte und Familienangehörige. Es lassen sich aber auch Spuren in Form schriftlicher Dokumente auswerten. Das eröffnet die Möglichkeit, Eigenschaften geschichtlich bedeutsamer Persönlichkeiten empirisch zu rekonstruieren.

Der Begriff historiometry geht auf F. A. Woods 1909 zurück (in Deutschland wird unter Historiometrie auch eine spezielle Unterrichtsmethode für den Geschichtsunterricht verstanden).
