Synthesized MnO2/Ag/g-C3N4 composite for photoreduction carbon dioxide under visible light

Abstract

The MnO2/Ag/g-C3N4 composite photocatalysts have been synthesized by a one pot method. The phase composition, morphology, and optical property of the samples were characterized via XRD, TEM, FT-IR, N2 adsorption–desorption, UV–vis DRS and PL. The photocatalytic performance was evaluated by reduction of carbon dioxide under visible light irradiation. Compared to pure g-C3N4 and Ag/g-C3N4, MnO2/Ag/g-C3N4 displayed enhanced photoreduction yield under visible light irradiation. In addition, 16.5% MnO2/Ag/g-C3N4 sample showed the highest photoreduction yield in photocatalytic process. The enhanced photocatalytic activity was ascribed to the photo-production electrons transfer between the MnO2 and g-C3N4 and the LSPR effect of Ag nanoparticles. It is suggested that MnO2/Ag/g-C3N4 composite is a promising catalyst for the practical application of photoreduction.
