Abstract

The main aim of this study is to find out the occurrence of horizontal and vertical workplace bullying in the hospitals, and to observe that which type is more common of the two. This study also focuses on the effects of perceived organizational support on workplace bullying and finally it explores the effects of workplace bullying and perceived organizational support on turnover intention. Data was collected from 250 employees who are working in the private and public hospitals of Hyderabad and Karachi Sindh, Pakistan. To analyze the data, spearman correlation and regression tests were used in 22nd version of SPSS software. The results conclude that superiors are more involved in bullying than the colleagues. Study also finds out that the perceived organizational support has more negative relationship with bullying by superiors than bullying by colleagues. Furthermore, results concludes that perceived organizational support have negative relationship with turnover intention. Finally study also explores that bullying by superiors are more involved in turnover intention then bullying by colleagues. From this study, it is concluded that organization and its HR department have to focus on the factors that cause bullying especially vertical bullying as it is more common of the two. The management must try to resolve all the issues which are related to bullying because bullying not only affects the victim’s psychological health but it also effects the patients treatment because if doctor, nurses and paramedical staff do not give their cent percent to the job, it ultimately affects the lives of patients which is more depressive than any financial loss.
