The usage of electric drives leads to new challenges for design engineers. Thermal management of batteries is particularly demanding, as it is relevant for achieving high charging and discharging performance. Dr. Matthias Donner, Global Technology Manager Driveline and EV Fluids at BP/Castrol, explains which new possibilities arise from the current developments of modern operating fluids for electric drives and batteries.
Dr. rer. nat. Matthias Donner studied chemical engineering at Münster University of Applied Sciences and received his doctorate in technical and macromolecular chemistry from the University of Hamburg. In 2006, he began his career at BP Germany as a project manager in the development of commercial vehicle transmission oils. In 2009, he assumed global responsibility for product development of automatic transmission oils for the BP, Castrol and Aral brands. In 2012, he moved to BP China in Shanghai for three years as A&P Driveline Capability Manager. Upon his return in 2015, he assumed responsibility for the Castrol Transmission Oil Development Center in Hamburg as Driveline Technology Center Manager. Since 2019, Donner has held global responsibility for the development of transmission and EV fluids for the BP, Castrol and Aral brands as Global Technology Manager Driveline and EV Fluids.
