This special issue of Engineering with Computers is devoted to selected papers from the Twelfth International Meshing Roundtable (IMR), which was held on 14–17 September 2003 in Santa Fe, NM, USA. The IMR is the premier conference in the mesh generation field. Each year, it attracts over a 100 participants from the United States, Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia, and South America. Twelfth IMR had 110 participants from academia, research laboratories, and industry. Thirty-five research papers selected from 56 submissions were presented at the conference. Proceedings are available online at http://www.imr.sandia.gov. While another special issue from the Twelfth IMR devoted to papers focusing on theoretical mesh generation is scheduled to appear in the International Journal of Computational Geometry and Applications, the six papers here represent the recent research in practical meshing and applications. …
