It is generally accepted in the field of psycholinguistics that the multilingual brain is different from the monolingual brain. However, regarding the cognitive and memory-related effects of multilingualism, opinions and findings vary greatly. The aim of this chapter is to provide the theoretical background and an overview of the research challenges in this research area with a special focus on child multilingualism.
