Zusammenfassung

Im Gegensatz zu herstellergetriebenen Distributionssystemen müssen die Netzwerke des Handels eine Vielzahl von Quellen mit einer Vielzahl von Senken verbinden, wobei oft beide über das gesamte, durch das Netz abzudeckende Gebiet verstreut sind (d. h. in jedem Teilgebiet gibt es sowohl Quellen als auch Senken, so dass die Waren aus und in alle Richtungen fließen). Die Systeme der Handelslogistik sind multidirektional und deshalb nicht pyramidal aufgebaut, sondern zeigen eine „Many-to-many-Architektur“ (Ausnahmen finden sich bei Händlern, die aus einem hafennahen Systemknoten heraus großenteils Importware verteilen). Gleichwohl hat es auch hier einen Trend zur Zentralisierung gegeben, der sich allerdings in ganz anderen Mustern niedergeschlagen hat.
