Abstract

One effective way to use low-value wood species in various sectors of the national economy by means of chemically modifying them with different combined compounds, which allows significantly improving its physical-mechanical and protective–decorative properties. Wood–polymer material obtained in this way is no worse than solid hardwoods in terms of strength and operational characteristics (high wear resistance, hardness, moisture and water resistance, et al.), as well as decorative attractiveness. However, the use of such a material, which is qualitatively different from natural wood in terms of its properties and structure, requires comprehensive studies to be carried out, particularly as regards gluing of wood–polymer material. Thus, studies of gluing wood–polymer material are quite relevant and timely. We gave carried out investigations of the use of birch wood modified by acrylic monomers in combination with bioprotective compounds using a chemical method, which can be recommended as a front layer in production of parquet flooring. Studying the physicochemical processes occurring in the system adhesive-substrate under piezo-thermal processing allowed establishing some features of gluing of wood–polymer material. A nondeficient and inexpensive adhesive was chosen that provides high strength and meets regulatory requirements in terms of properties.
