Zusammenfassung

Eine Eigenschaft (Trait) ist ein Konstrukt, welches annimmt, dass konsistente (stabile) individuelle Unterschiede zwischen verschiedenen Personen existieren. Zwar gelten Eigenschaften und Motive über die Zeit hinweg als relativ stabil, dennoch unterscheiden sie sich grundlegend. Eine Persönlichkeitseigenschaft kann förderlich oder hemmend auf ein bestimmtes Motiv einwirken. Beispielsweise fördert die Persönlichkeitseigenschaft Extraversion das Machtmotiv und die Introversion wirkt sich hemmend auf die Ausübung des Machtmotivs aus (vgl. Winter et al. 1998). Während sich Persönlichkeit und Motive durch kritische Lebensereignisse verändern (z. B. einschneidendes berufliches oder privates Ereignis), kann die Motivausprägung mittels Trainings verändert werden (vgl. McClelland 1975).
