Abstract

The study investigates the influence of deficit irrigation on the yield and quality of forage maize hybrids in the Golestan province of Iran, where water scarcity is a significant challenge. By comparing different irrigation treatments, the research highlights how water stress affects total biomass, dry matter yield, and water use efficiency. Notably, the findings reveal that while water-saving strategies like deficit irrigation can improve water use efficiency, they also lead to reduced crop yields and changes in forage quality. The article underscores the importance of selecting suitable maize hybrids and irrigation strategies to mitigate the adverse effects of drought, offering practical insights for sustainable maize cultivation in water-scarce regions.
