Kann die Leadership-Ökonomik zum Verständnis von Führungsphänomenen beitragen? Eine kritische Bestandsaufnahme

Zusammenfassung

Trotz einer – innerhalb der Organisationsforschung zu beobachtenden – Tendenz zur Ökonomisierung haben ökonomische Theorien in der Führungsforschung bislang keinen nennenswerten (theoriebildenden) Niederschlag gefunden. Dies ist überraschend, wenn man bedenkt, dass Leadership traditionell ganz vorwiegend in einem ökonomischen Umfeld stattfindet sowie insbesondere dort wissenschaftlich untersucht wird. Stattdessen hat sich ein von der managementorientierten (klassischen) Führungsforschung abgekapselter Strang entwickelt, der konsequent auf der Basis ökonomischer Standardtheorien Führungsfragen aufgreift. Wir haben den Erkenntnisbeitrag, den diese, von uns als Leadership-Ökonomik bezeichnete, Strömung zum Verständnis von Führung leistet, basierend auf einer systematisierten Auswahl von 34 Studien analysiert. Insgesamt verweisen unsere Ergebnisse auf eine relative Bedeutungslosigkeit der Leadership-Ökonomik im Kontext der führungsbezogenen Theoriebildung sowie Gestaltungspraxis. Unsere Analyse zeigt auf, warum dies bisher der Fall war und, nach dem jetzigen Stand zu urteilen, auch in Zukunft nicht viel anders sein wird. Weiterhin zeigen wir schließlich auf, inwiefern dies aus normativer Sicht sogar als wünschenswert erscheint.
