Lohnt sich Nachhaltigkeitsmanagement? Mindsets, „business cases“ und Strategie

Zusammenfassung

Angesichts der steigenden gesellschaftlichen Bedeutung von Nachhaltigkeitsthemen stellen sich viele Manager die Frage, in welchem Zusammenhang Nachhaltigkeit zum wirtschaftlichen Unternehmenserfolg steht. Nach wie vor existieren Unsicherheiten und mangelndes Wissen über die ökonomische Bedeutung von Nachhaltigkeit. Dies führt häufig zu einem Abwarten und Zögern, wodurch vielfach ökonomische Chancen vergeben oder unnötige Risiken eingegangen werden. Dabei entpuppt sich die berühmte Frage „Rechnet sich Nachhaltigkeit?“ bei genauerer Betrachtung als irreführend. Analysiert man das Thema sachlich, so kann selbstverständlich, wie bei anderen Managementaufgaben auch, eine falsche Berücksichtigung von Umwelt- und Sozialaspekten in der Tat hohe Kosten verursachen. Viele erfolgreiche Praxisbeispiele zeigen jedoch, dass eine intelligente Berücksichtigung von Nachhaltigkeitsaspekten auch erhebliche Kosteneinsparungen ermöglicht und substanziell zu einer stärkeren Marktposition oder gar zur Marktführerschaft verhelfen kann. Dieser Beitrag geht der Frage nach, was man unter „business cases for sustainability“ versteht, wie sie geschaffen werden können und welche Eckpunkte man zu ihrer aktiven Ausgestaltung berücksichtigen muss.
