Abstract

The article explores the significance of natural stone heterogeneities and discontinuities in the context of Portugal's thriving natural stone industry. It introduces a classification system based on color heterogeneities, textural and structural heterogeneities, and discontinuities. This system aims to standardize the identification and analysis of these features, enhancing the quality and efficiency of stone processing. The authors also validate the classification system using examples of Portuguese ornamental stones, highlighting the importance of combining geological knowledge with technological advancements in the industry.
