Perhaps at no other time in history, has the discussion of digital badging been at the forefront of discussions of researchers, scholars, and practitioners alike, especially in the educational setting. This trend is certainly supported by recent literature, and Muilenberg and Berge’s (Eds.) (2016) Digital Badges in Education: Trends, Issues, and Cases helps paint a clear picture for the reader as it applies to the overall history, current trends, evolving issues, and cases of the emerging tool. The editors, Muilenberg, an Associate Professor of Educational Studies at St. Mary’s College in Maryland, and Berge, a Professor of Training Systems in Graduate programs at the University of Maryland, have brought together some of the most prominent and well-known individuals in the digital badge world to serve as authors of the 25 respective chapters within the book. The book is organized into two parts (Part I & Part II) with part one (chapter 1–11) focused on trends and issues and part two (chapters 12–25) focused on cases. Worth noting, part two in broken down further into content areas including digital badges for K12 leaders, digital badges in higher education, and digital badges in adult learning. There is little doubt that the editors were mindful and strategic with the organization of the two sections, and the accompanying chapters including the content areas. Thus, one would conclude that the book serves as an excellent resource for researchers, scholars, and practitioners. …
