The use of electric wheel hub drives in motor vehicles promises advantages in terms of space efficiency and driving dynamics. However, a number of technical challenges have prevented the use in series production vehicles so far. A vehicle concept developed at the Institute for Automotive Engineering (ika) at RWTH Aachen University within the research project Mehren shows possible solutions and the potential of this technology. …
