Für jemanden, der sich für die Vergangenheit, Gegenwart und Zukunft der weltweiten Wirtschaftsinformatik-Community interessiert, lohnt sich ein Blick auf die Nordamerikanische Information-Systems-Community (NAIS-Community) und die deutschsprachige Wirtschaftsinformatik-Community (WI-Community). Beide Communitys weisen nämlich geradezu prototypisch Eigenschaften auf, die sich in fast allen Communitys weltweit wiederfinden (Buhl et al. 2012; Frank et al. 2008). Beide Communitys haben sich in den letzten Jahrzehnten weitestgehend unabhängig voneinander entwickelt und weisen heute, wie weiter unten deutlich wird, komplementäre Stärken und Schwächen auf. Darüber hinaus stehen sie vor Herausforderungen, für welche die jeweils andere Community Lösungen bietet. Die Herausforderungen jeder Community resultieren einerseits aus ihren eigenen Schwächen, andererseits aus Veränderungen in ihren jeweiligen Ökosystemen. Da zahlreiche Mitglieder beider Communitys unzufrieden mit der gegenwärtigen Situation sind, sind Änderungen unabdingbar! …
