20. Das Internet der Dinge und neue digitale Geschäftsmodelle in der Lebensmittelindustrie

Zusammenfassung

Ausgehend von der Beobachtung, dass sich der Online-Handel über viele Jahre sehr schwer tat, Fuß zu fassen, aber in letzter Zeit zunehmend einen Markt und Akzeptanz bei Finanzinvestoren gefunden hat, stellt dieses Kapitel die Frage, inwieweit die Entwicklungen des Technologieparadigmas „Internet der Dinge“ Beiträge leisten kann, die Schwächen und Probleme der Lebensmittelindustrie zu bewältigen. Dazu fasst es die wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten, die sich mit derartigen Problemen befasst haben, zusammen und beschreibt anschließend die Attribute und Kennzeichen der Entwicklungen des Technologieparadigmas „Internet der Dinge“ sowie des damit verwandten „Industrie 4.0“-Ansatzes. Drei Fallstudien zu Smart Farming, dem System F-Trace der deutschen Firma G1 One Germany und der Firma Yummla aus dem US-amerikanischen Silicon Valley illustrieren die Möglichkeiten und wirtschaftlichen Chancen des Internets der Dinge und einer besseren Vernetzung aller Datenbestände und Prozesse über alle Akteure in der Wertschöpfungskette der Lebensmittelindustrie „from Plough to Plate“, d. h. vom Pflug bis zum Teller. Abschließend fasst es zusammen und gibt Ausblicke darauf, wie eine digitale Revolution in der Lebensmittelbranche naht, die die Märkte erheblich verändern wird.
