Enhanced photo-induced charge transfer properties of vertically aligned nanorods arrays fabricated by thermal annealing approach

Abstract

In this paper, vertically aligned CdSe/CdS nanorods multilayer was achieved via a novel and simple thermal annealing approach on silicon substrate. The high uniformity in morphology and structure of nanorods arrays was obtained by adjusting the annealing ramp and solution concentration. The mechanism of this self-assembly was explained by the thermally decomposed organics surrounding the nanorods through annealing process, which induces decreased interspace between nanorods and more freedom for nanorods self-assembly into ordered packing; the decrease in organic capping molecules was further confirmed by the thermogravimetric analysis and the fourier transform infrared spectroscopy results; and nanorods arrays showed effectively enhanced photo-induced charge transfer properties compared to that of random packing ones as tested in the surface photovoltage measurement. The results here may offer a way towards device-scale nanorods superlattices for application in photovoltaic devices.
