Hybrid optimal fuzzy Jaya technique for advanced PMSM driving control

Abstract

Permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives are widely used in civil and industrial applications because of their high efficiency, high power density, and low maintenance costs. To improve the tracking efficiency of variable speed PMSM drive, intelligent control methods used in speed control PMSM, such as Fuzzy and/or Neutral-based controller. The Fuzzy PI controllers improve the PMSM speed tracking efficiency by changing the PI controller parameter according to the PMSM speed error. However, the performance of Fuzzy PI controllers depends on the fuzzy controller parameter (FCP), which is selected based on the trial-and-error method. The result is decreasing the PMSM speed control quality. This paper proposes a method to optimize the FCP by modified Jaya optimization algorithm (MJA). The quality evaluation criteria of PMSM speed control, such as Integral of Time Absolute Error (ITAE), Integral of Absolute Error (IAE), and Integral of Square Error (ISE), show that the proposed speed control method gives better results than the two other advanced control methods. The experiment case studies demonstrate that the PMSM speed control method using the proposed hybrid optimal fuzzy Jaya technique algorithm obtains practicality, robustness, and high accuracy.
