The Rheological Behavior of Powder–Polymer Blends and Model Description of Feedstock Viscosity for Numerical Simulation of the Injection Molding Process

Abstract

This work is devoted to the study of the rheological behavior of a powder–polymer composition prepared for use in injection molding technology. A review of the models used to describe the rheological behavior of slurries is presented. Viscosity was studied on a capillary rheometer with different capillary diameters using MIM-4140 feedstock with a wax–polyolefin binder as an example. Empirical coefficients of viscosity models are determined. Verification of the calculated values of the viscosity of the studied feedstock and experimental data is presented.
