The low speed two-stroke engine segment is undergoing changes. Via a merger, one of the key players has now moved closer to its shipbuilding customers and all the designers and developers have announced, or already introduced, gas-burning two-strokes. At the same time, four-stroke engine efficiency is set to rise, and predictions are of greater competition between medium speed and low speed engines, especially in the area where the two types overlap in terms of power output. Thomas Knudsen, Senior Vice President at MAN Diesel & Turbo’s Business Unit Low Speed, based in Copenhagen, Denmark gave us his views on the market’s recent evolution. …
