Abstract

A number of aromatic oligoesters containing phenylene, biphenyl, and naphthalene fragments have been synthesized. Polarization optical microscopy and DSC have revealed the formation of a nematic mesophase in the samples prepared on the basis of 4-hydroxybenzoic acid, 1,5-dihydroxynaphthalene, and terephthalic acid or 4-hydroxybenzoic acid, hydroquinone, and isophthalic acid. The kinetic parameters of the thermal degradation of the obtained compounds have been determined.
