Elaine Hatfield (formerly Elaine Walster) is one of the most influential social justice researchers of the last 40 years and—by virtue of her important role as one of the first prominent women in experimental social psychology—a trailblazer. She is probably best known to the members of the International Society of Justice Research (ISJR) as an equity theorist extraordinaire. Her remarkable career has, however, produced lasting contributions on a broad range of topic areas, including social influence, cognitive dissonance, self-esteem, emotional contagion, interpersonal attraction, romantic love, and human sexual behavior.
