Until now, innovative functions such as sailing and enhanced start-stop have been reserved mainly for the premium passenger car segment. Through an intelligent automation of the manual transmission in combination with a 12-V belt-driven starter generator Schaeffler has now integrated these functions in a small car (B segment), putting the Micro plus concept car into practice. By sailing while the internal combustion engine is switched off a significant CO2 reduction at an adequate cost is achieved. In driving cycles close to end customers the fuel consumption is reduced up to 10.5 %. …
