Abstract

The article delves into the critical issue of Ascochyta blight, a significant threat to global chickpea production. It focuses on the evaluation of 45 chickpea genotypes, including both commercial cultivars and breeding lines, against the highly virulent Pathotype-IV of Ascochyta rabiei. The study reveals a range of responses from resistant to highly susceptible, with notable differences among the genotypes. The identification of resistant and moderately resistant genotypes offers promising avenues for breeding programs aimed at developing disease-resistant chickpea cultivars. The research underscores the importance of incorporating these resistant germplasms into breeding studies to mitigate the devastating effects of Ascochyta blight and ensure sustainable chickpea production.
