Analysis of processes and regimes for blast-furnace smelting with maximal replacement of coke

Abstract

The possibilities for minimizing the use of coke in blast-furnace smelting by replacing it with pulverized-coal fuel and coke-oven gas while also increasing the temperature and oxygen content of the blast are examined based on the results of analytical studies made of smelting indices and processes with broad variations in the parameters of the blast. A multi-zone mathematical model developed at the Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences is used to obtain efficient regime parameters and final results for smelting with maximal coke replacement in two different furnaces. The model makes it possible to find the internal linkages between the processes that take place in the blast furnace. New scientific results are obtained along with conclusions that can be put to practical use.
