Flexible displays are multi-layered structures consisting of a polymer-based substrate sandwiched between a numbers of functional layers that act as a gas barrier layer, e.g. inorganic thin silicon nitride layer (Si

), and a transparent conducting oxide layer, e.g. indium tin oxide layer (ITO). For the realization of flexible displays, a study of the mechanical integrity of multi-layered structures and their reliability is required.
