Abstract

This chapter discusses topics in human and economic geography such as geo-politics, geo-economics, spatial economics, complementarities of regions, trade agreements, central and peripheral locations and agglomeration. This chapter explains why and how countries play the geo-political game. It seeks to demarcate why and how countries enter into alliances with other nations to maximize their economic efficiency for development. It shall also answer why in the system of cities, some cities assume central locations while others become periphery. Lastly, it will explain what are the forces of agglomeration and why firms choose to cluster themselves together; and how all these factors affect the internationalization of a transnational firm.
