In this work, we develop a particular approach based on Genetic Algorithms (GA) for solving the decisionmaking problem in an uncertain environment, expressed as a graph-search problem. We show how Genetic Algorithms can be used as a new kind of heuristic search technique. The algorithm is illustrated in a particular decision-making application, namely an expert system which performs the automatic target recognition of armoured vehicules from short-range infra-red images. To illustrate the flexibility of the Genetic Algorithms approach for decision making, two implementations (single and multi-stage GA) are build and compared.
