Abstract

Turbulent bubbly and droplet-laden flows are abundant in industry and nature. Examples are bubble column reactors [1], spray combustion systems [2] and rain clouds [3]. The interaction between the bubbles/droplets and the surrounding turbulent carrier flow is complex and still not well understood, in particular when the bubbles/droplets have a finite-size (relative to the Kolmogorov scale) and when the bubble/droplet volume concentration is not dilute [4, 5].
