Abstract

Business processes are dynamic by their nature, because of changes of their environment and customers’ needs. Therefore, their supporting information systems should be dynamic as well. Although a number of approaches have been proposed to dynamic business process (DBP) modelling, there is lack of theory, implementation or both. This paper proposes a novel rule- and context- based approach of DBP modelling and simulation. The main idea of the approach is that the sequence of activities in a process depends on the environment, which is described as a context of a BP, and activities are selected according to the defined rules at BP instance runtime. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is evaluated with a simulation scenario, and the simulation results indicate that the proposed approach is suitable for DBP simulation.
