Abstract
The aim of the present study is to determine the optimal extrusion parameters and heat treatment of the profile made of 5181 alloy, which ensures the achievement of approximately 25% improved strength compared to the profile made of the 5083 alloy. The influence of the extrusion speed, heating temperature of billets, and modes of heat treatment on the mechanical properties of extruded semi-finished products was studied. Preferable fields of application for the 5181 alloy are marine, railways, and automotive applications due to the attractive combination of strength properties and cost.
