Abstract

In this paper we are presenting MentorEye system supporting complex oncological procedures. In the past, whole medical content and virtual plan were presented in the operating theater using external monitors. This basic approach was quite difficult for surgeons, because they were distracted from real operation and what is more important to follow virtual plan realization, they lost their direct eye contact with the operating field. Huge development in head mounted displays (HMD) technology creates an opportunity to use this kind of presenters interoperatively. First of all, they are quite small and user friendly, and content presentation can be from an egocentric point of view. In this paper, we show different HMD models and their potential usage in computer aided surgery. Finally, calibration procedure is validated to support virtual plan visualization directly in the front of surgeon eyes.
