Thinking of the Renaissance it is inevitably culture, paintings, architecture, sculptures that come to mind. It is also a period that marks the appearance of significant new trends in political thought. From a historical perspective, however, what is striking about the Renaissance is first of all the near impossibility to draw its limits in time and space: the Renaissance is a European phenomenon, but beyond that it took various forms in different countries, and, what is more striking, occurred at distinct time periods, thus it is far from simple to offer a clear definition of this complex experience we call the Renaissance.
