Money as we know it in an entrepreneurial economy can never be described, much less analysed, in the absence of the institution of forward contracting. The analysis of the evolution of the laws and customs under which such contracts are enforced and enforceable is fundamental to an understanding of the unique role of money and the need for liquidity.
