Abstract

Although several aids have been developed to help people with visual impairment in the accomplishment of daily activities, indoor and outdoor navigation remains a critical task when considered both as a technological and a social issue. In this review paper examples of smart systems adopting multi-sensor architectures to provide the user with information useful to perform mobility tasks are briefly discussed. In particular, the ongoing activity at the DIEEI laboratories in Catania for the development of smart methodologies to assist weak people in daily activities are highlighted.
