Abstract

Failure is defined as missing goals with existential consequences. Nevertheless, the closer you get to that term the more it becomes fuzzy, blurred, and difficult to grasp. In this article, I offer three examples. First, I show shortly that failure is historically decreasing but nowadays it is increasing. Second, I argue that people tend to attribute failure to individuals and neglect systemic influences. Last, I state that failure is not good or bad by nature but highly relative, depending on the evaluation criteria. Numerous sources as books, websites, and quotes underpin the explanations throughout the text.
