It’s worthwhile to dispose of the simplest and least interesting phases of compiling as early as possible, so as to be able to concentrate in the rest of the book on the more difficult and interesting topics of syntax analysis, translation and code optimisation. The processes of input to and output from a compiler are fairly straightforward. There are simple techniques used to implement these activities and it is on these that I concentrate in this chapter.
